Biography
Keegan Thomas Hedley is a bassoonist and conductor based in Montréal, Québec. Hedley is currently pursuing his Bachelor of Music in Orchestral Performance under Stéphane Lévesque at McGill University's Schulich School of Music. He joins the Hamilton Philharmonic Orchestra as Apprentice Conductor for the 2026-2027 season.

Hedley began his studies in a high school band room, as most musicians do. With the help of his teacher, Angela Maccaroni, Hedley further developed his skills, making his way out of the classroom and into the world. He took up private study with Cathi MacDonnell and then Anna Norris. Hedley followed in Norris' footsteps by attending McGill under Lévesque. He is grateful for the education which he has received thus far. Other influences include Eric Hall, Martin Mangrum, and Fraser Jackson, among others.

In 2024, Hedley performed Hindemith's Sonata for Bassoon and Piano at Wilfrid Laurier University's Double Reed Day in a masterclass for Dr. Jeffrey Lyman.
Between 2022 and 2025, he took up positions in multiple regional and youth orchestras. These included Principal Bassoon of the Hamilton Philharmonic Youth Orchestra, Section Bassoon of the Oakville Symphony Youth Orchestra and of Sinfonia Ancaster.

As a conductor, Hedley has led the Blessed Trinity Concert Band in performance, and the Burlington Symphony Orchestra in rehearsal. He joins the Hamilton Philharmonic Orchestra as Apprentice Conductor for the 2026-2027 season, working with established and illustrious Music Director James S. Kahane.

Hedley is a founding member of the woodwind quartet, Quatour Iuxta Montem (pronounced: Yookstah Montem). Formed in 2025, the group met at McGill's Schulich School of Music and was arranged by chance. After months of collaboration, Quatour Iuxta Montem will continue to perform. The founding members include Urban Hopkins, flute, Anya Loptson, oboe, and Scarlett Brunel-Thouret, clarinet, and Keegan Hedley, bassoon.

A former actor, Hedley held principal roles such as Rubble on Paw Patrol, and Daniel on Daniel Tiger's Neighbourhood. He has made appearances in other productions like Odd Squad, Run The Burbs, and Popularity Papers, as well as others. His debut performance was in Linwood Barclay's Never Saw it Coming (dir. Gail Harvey).

Outside of music, he can be found wandering the streets of Montréal, reading about history, or enjoying time with family and friends.
